Primetime-Physical-Therapy-Fort-Walton-Beach-FL

The Primetime Physical Therapy team is committed to finding the root cause of your condition and developing a treatment plan that addresses your needs and helps you achieve your goals.

Preparing for your first appointment at Primetime Physical Therapy

Before your visit, make a list of questions you’d like to ask during your first meeting and call our office ahead of time to verify your insurance benefits.

You will register at the front desk when you arrive at our office. We’ll ask for your insurance information and any other paperwork you may have brought with you (i.e., referral, X-ray or MRI report, or other medical reports). Be prepared to talk about your medical history, previous treatments, limitations you’re dealing with, and other relevant details.

What to bring:
  • A valid photo ID
  • Insurance information, including your insurance card and any necessary authorization or referral forms
  • A list of current medications, allergies, and any relevant past surgeries
When to arrive:
  • Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to complete any necessary paperwork and settle in. This will also give you time to ask questions and address concerns before your session begins.
What to wear:
  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement and provides access for the physical therapist to examine and treat the affected area. (Athletic wear or clothing that can be easily adjusted is ideal.)
  • Supportive, closed-toe shoes, such as sneakers, to ensure safety and comfort during the session.
  • Avoid wearing tight or restrictive clothing, which may hinder your ability to move freely during the session.

During your first session, one of our physical therapists will typically perform a comprehensive evaluation, develop a therapy plan for you, and provide any necessary education, pain relief, or home exercises.

The evaluation will take up most of your appointment time. It includes a review of your medical history, an assessment of your current condition, and an examination of your range of motion, strength, and movement patterns. Our therapist will also discuss your goals and determine how long and how frequently you should attend your physical therapy sessions.

Our therapist will then use information from the assessment to develop your customized treatment plan. They’ll explain the details of your plan and offer any relevant information to help you understand why your treatment plan will be effective.

If you’re struggling with pain or mobility limitations, your first session will likely include some hands-on treatments to address these concerns, such as manual therapy or other modalities.

Your therapist may also give you home exercises to help support your progress in therapy.

After your first session, you’ll arrange the remaining sessions at the front desk before leaving. During those subsequent physical therapy sessions, we’ll build on the initial evaluation to create the most significant impact possible. Our goal will be to help you recover quickly and achieve meaningful, lasting results.

Our Destin, Niceville and Fort Walton Beach, FL therapists will keep a detailed record of their findings and treatment plan and can provide those to any medical professional of your choosing.

Communicating openly and honestly with your physical therapist throughout each session is essential, as is sharing any concerns or questions you may have. This will help ensure the most effective treatment and a positive experience. We genuinely want to listen, understand your concerns, and provide you with the best possible solution!

Direct Access

Did You Know You Can See a Physical Therapist Without a Referral?

In all 50 states, you can schedule a visit with one of our therapists to get help sooner rather than later. Whether you’re struggling with lingering pain from an old injury or you only hurt yourself yesterday, Direct Access guarantees your access.

Direct Access refers to the ability of patients to seek and receive physical therapy services without needing a referral or prescription from a physician or other healthcare provider.

Direct Access benefits patients in several ways:

Faster access to care

Patients can immediately consult with our physical therapists in Destin, Niceville or Fort Walton Beach, FL without waiting for a referral, allowing treatment to begin sooner and potentially shortening recovery times.

Reduced healthcare costs

Direct Access can eliminate the need for multiple appointments with different healthcare providers, thereby reducing overall healthcare costs. Early intervention through physical therapy may also prevent the need for more expensive treatments, tests, or procedures later on.

Streamlined care

Our physical therapists are highly trained healthcare professionals who evaluate and treat musculoskeletal and movement-related issues. Direct Access allows you to receive specialized care from the most appropriate healthcare provider, resulting in more focused and effective treatment.

Enhanced patient autonomy

Direct Access empowers you to take greater control over your healthcare decisions and choose the most appropriate care for your needs.

Direct Access laws and regulations vary by state in the United States. Some states allow unrestricted Direct Access, while others have specific provisions or limitations, such as a maximum number of visits or a requirement for a referral after a certain period.

It’s also vital to keep in mind that, regardless of your state’s laws, some insurance companies may still require a referral or prescription for coverage. Always check with your insurance provider to understand their specific requirements for physical therapy coverage.

Call today to consult with our administrative team to determine the extent of Direct Access available to you.

How Direct Access laws affect health insurance

Unfortunately, there is no standard requirement for physical therapy benefits among health insurance providers, so policies differ from carrier to carrier. Although Direct Access laws may allow you to seek physical therapy services without a referral, some insurance carriers may still require a referral or prescription for coverage.

For that reason, It’s essential to check what your insurance covers, no matter what! When you contact your provider, be sure to clarify their specific requirements for physical therapy coverage. Remember to ask about any limitations on the number of visits or the duration of treatment.

As you progress through your treatment, keep track of the amount of time you’re spending in physical therapy. This will help ensure you remain within your insurance provider’s coverage limits and comply with state-specific Direct Access regulations.

It is also important to know that although Direct Access allows patients to seek physical therapy services without a referral, it is still vital to maintain open communication with your primary care provider or specialist. Our team will inform them of your physical therapy treatment and update them on your progress. This will help ensure coordinated care and may be necessary if a referral or prescription is eventually required.

In addition, our Primetime Physical Therapy specialists will submit your plan of care to be reviewed and signed off on by a registered doctor.

Prioritizing Patient Needs

Cash-Based Physical Therapy at Primetime Physical Therapy

Cash-based physical therapy is a model of service in which physical therapists accept direct payment from patients instead of relying on insurance reimbursement.

At Primetime Physical Therapy, we have implemented this model for the following reasons:

Improved Patient-Therapist Relationship

By eliminating the insurance company arbitrarily stopping your rehabilitation or making the process unnecessarily complicated, the therapist and patient can focus on what matters most, your results!

Control Over Services

It allows physical therapists to determine the type and frequency of treatment based on patient needs rather than what an insurance company is willing to cover. It gives the therapist more freedom to provide the best possible care.

Simpler Billing

The billing process is greatly simplified without insurance companies in the mix. Therapists can spend less time dealing with paperwork, claims submissions, and follow-ups and more time helping you get the results you deserve!

Price Transparency

In a cash-based model, patients know upfront the cost of their treatment. This can lead to fewer surprises and better financial planning for patients.

Lower Overall Costs

Because treatment costs aren’t inflated to meet insurance reimbursement rates, the actual cost of services is often lower in a cash-based model. Research has shown that cash-based physical therapy typically requires fewer visits than traditional insurance-based models, resulting in less cost to the patient.

However, it’s important to remember that this model isn’t without drawbacks. For example, some patients may prefer to utilize their insurance coverage for such services if available, which is why we also provide that service.

As with any healthcare decision, it’s essential for patients to carefully consider their needs, finances, and insurance coverage when deciding between insurance-based and cash-based physical therapy.

How is my progress measured?

Our physical therapists know the importance of measuring your impairments and functional limitations so we can better design a customized treatment plan and more easily track your progress during the course of your treatment.

We’ll look at objective measurements of your physical capabilities, including specific tests of fitness such as the following:

  • Heart rate and blood pressure
  • Range of motion
  • Strength (i.e., power, speed, endurance)
  • Functional mobility
  • Coordination and agility

We’ll also look at impairments that can impact your comfort and physical ability, including the following:

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Weakness
  • Loss of motion
  • Paresthesias (prickling or tingling sensations)

Functional limitations are the final piece of the puzzle. These limitations affect your ability to do everyday tasks like the following:

  • Sitting
  • Standing
  • Squatting and lunging
  • Walking and stepping up and down
  • Running and jumping

By tracking your overall fitness markers, physical impairments, and functional abilities throughout the course of your treatment, our physical therapists have an objective picture of your progress, allowing us to adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

However, we also want to hear from you. Your feedback and personal assessments are an invaluable part of this process, as they help us more fully understand your improvements, regressions, or stagnation. If your therapy deviates from its expected path, our therapists will reassess the situation and make necessary adjustments or recommendations for further evaluation or treatments.

Our ultimate goal is to help you notice tangible improvements in your performance, functionality, and overall well-being. Tracking your impairments, limitations, and progress are all key to accomplishing that goal.

You can trust our evidence-based expertise to help you achieve your sports and fitness goals!

How long is each appointment going to be?

Appointment durations vary based on individual needs. That said, initial sessions typically last between 1 hour and 1 hour and 15 minutes. Subsequent sessions generally range from 45-60 minutes.

Generally speaking, your therapist will want to see you more often in the early stages of your therapy, as this will help them assess your progress and confirm you’re on the right treatment plan. At first, you’ll likely attend sessions twice a week, then space them out as you proceed through treatment.

Our therapists will work with you to determine the best length and frequency of your appointments to ensure your optimal progress.

Will my insurance cover the cost of treatment?

We understand that navigating insurance can be complex, which is why our team at Primetime Physical Therapy is here to help answer your questions and provide guidance. We recommend contacting your insurance carrier to confirm coverage based on your specific policy.
